RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT RE-EXPRESSES COMMITMENT TO THE UNITY OF NIGERIA AND AFRICA

The Rivers State Government has re-expressed its commitment to the unity of Nigeria and the African Continent.
The State Chief Executive Nyesom Ezenwo Wike stated this during the closing ceremony of the 1st Rivers Governor’s National Badminton Championship at the Alfred Diette-Spiff Civic Centre in Port Harcourt, on Saturday 22nd December, 2018.
Represented by his Deputy, Dr.(Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo, Governor Wike  described sports as a very strong unifying  factor globally.


“In Rivers State we are committed to the Unity of Nigeria and Africa and whatever it takes to contribute towards this as a Government, we are very happy and willing to do so”. Governor Wike stressed.
He expressed delight that the 1st Rivers Governor’s National Badminton Championship was an opportunity to celebrate Mr.Tamuno Gibson, a Rivers born Legend who was the African Badminton Champion for several years and is still very strong and active in the sports.

The Governor who said his Administration would continue to support sports progress and development expressed readiness to host the All African Senior Badminton Championship in April, 2019.
He commended the President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih for his hard work, commitment, dedication and passion to reposition Badminton in Country.
In his remarks, the President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih  said Nigeria  is becoming  the most dominant force in Badminton in Africa  both in senior and the junior categories, noting that the Junior National Badminton Team made Nigeria proud by wining Gold Medals in the just concluded African Schools Badminton Championship held in  Ghana.
He thanked Governor Wike for showing exemplary excellence in the sponsorship of sporting activities especially Badminton.
The Governor was presented with an award of excellence by the Badminton Federation of Nigeria at the event.
