RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT ASSURES OF AN ALL ROUND SAFETY

The Rivers State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensure an all round safety and security on our water ways and communities.

Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo stated this at a security meeting between the Navy Commander, in Bonny, Officer in Charge Marine Police in Bonny, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Transport, a representative of the Bonny kingdom and the Chairman Care Taker Committee of Bonny Local Government Area, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Represented by her Senior Special Assistant on Security, Elder Emmanuel Ibama Dr. Banigo   said reports of boat hijacking, stealing of outboard engines, piracy, and sea robberies as well as kidnapping on our water ways and rural communities are worrisome and must be seriously tackled.

According to the Deputy Governor Security Operatives in the area must take urgent steps to nip the excesses of criminals in the bud before it grows out of proportion.

Dr. Banigo said there has been series of reports of extortion of passengers by security operatives at the Bonny Jetty in Port Harcourt which she described as embarrassing and a sign of in disciple, while urging the authorities to investigate and punish those involved.

She said the Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike led Administration on its part will continue to give the necessary support to the Security Agencies to fight crime and warned all criminals to stay away from the State.

On his part the Chairman care Taker Committee of Bonny Local Government Area, Warisenibo Isoboye Tobin said it has been confirmed that the gun boats presented to the Security operatives by the State Governor are in use and pleaded that another security meeting comprising the multinational companies, Boat Owners, the security operatives and the Government to address the security issues permanently
