DEVELOPING A POSITIVE MENTALITY

A positive mentality is a mental attitude or thinking in which you expect something good or favorable in every situation even when it seems like all hope is lost. With a positive mind set, no matter the circumstance, you wait for or expect a happy ending.
A negative mentality keeps happiness far from us thus affecting our relationship with people.
Having a positive mindset means you decide to stay happy and positive in life even in bleak times.

In the society we live in, we encounter challenges, set backs and even attacks from people be it at work places, homes or any other social gathering. Life in itself is full of challenges. At every stage of our lives, we come across challenges that tend to throw us off balance or make us give up on life. You hear of suicidal tendencies or actual suicides because people felt they couldn't take it anymore in life. Some do the unthinkable just to beat the challenge they encounter.
Such challenges include failures in exams, businesses, relationships, and so on. But does all these mean we should give up on life? Does it mark the end of life? No way in all these. That's why we need to start Developing a Positive Mentality and it starts from you. Only you can help you achieve this with the help of God.

First of all accept who you are. You are created in the image of God so you are nothing less than any one else. Stop comparing your life to that of others. You are uniquely made and therefore unique in your own way. "I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; My soul knows it well". Psalm 139:14.
Accept your flaws. These flaws are part of who you are and they make you beautiful.Accepting your flaws in turn makes you a better person as you tend to work on yourself. You turn to no one but God to make you a perfect being in your imperfections. "The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: "Arise, and go to the porters house, and there I will let you hear my words. "So I went down to the porter's house, and there he was working at his wheel. And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the porter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the porter to do. Then the word of the Lord came to me." Jeremiah 18:1-6.
Live your life at your own pace. We all have different times. Wait for your time believing it will come to pass. Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it won't happen. God makes everything beautiful at His own time (Ecclesiastics 3:11). See your waiting time as a training process because at this time, its when your faith and patience is tried and developed if properly handled.
Every stage of your life comes with its unique challenge and great outcome depending on how well you handle it. Appreciate this stage of life you are in at the moment. Though things might not be working out the way you expected but the lines will fall in pleasant places at the end.

Change your thinking pattern. When negative thoughts creep in as result of the situation you are in or concerning something you intend to achieve or about your personality, quickly change your thoughts to positive thinking with the mentality that it will end positively.
Your mind is a decision maker. Whatever the mind sets to achieve, it achieves and this depends on what you feed your mind with. The mind is your storage house. It stores how you feel and the events of our feelings (emotions).
Therefore decide on what you focus your mind on. What and where you focus your mind on will become the outcome you get. The devil feeds on no where but on our minds to bring us down making us feel it is not possible, its not achievable, we cant make it, we wont get there and every other negative thought you can think of. The devil focuses on your mind in order to bring you down but you have the power to shift the focus of  your mind from negative to positive thoughts.
What you watch, read the words you speak or listen to and the association you keep play a major role in your thinking pattern.
Pictures play a very vital role in our minds. Ever experienced after seeing a picture or watching a movie of a strong impact, the image never leaves your mind even to the point that when you close your eyes that's all you see. Therefore, watch and read only those things that will help improve your mindset and help you grow. Do not allow the negative words of others directed to you to get to you. You are not what they say, think or feel about you. Know your worth and stand by your worth. God has better plans for you and the outcome of your life. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11.
Watch the kind of words you speak and listen to. The kind of messages or music you listen to have effect on your thinking pattern and feelings and these words can make or mar you. Feed your mind daily with God's word. This way you get to renew your mind not just daily but positively (Romans 12:2)
If your close circle of friends drain you negatively, then you need to change your set of friends. Associate rather with people who help in adding to your life positively. " Do not be deceived: Evil communication corrupts good manners." 1st Corinthians 15:33. The NIV version states  "Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character."
Give respect to your mind by paying attention to it. The mind will either strengthen you, make you grow or destroy you. The mind is so powerful that it expands and magnifies what ever you feed it with so be sure you feed your mind regularly with positive thoughts and renew it daily with God's word.

Have a heart filled with gratitude. Be grateful for where you are, who you are, what you are and what you have. Every morning we rise, sets the pace for a new beginning, it brings with it fresh hope, renewed energy and trust in God that today will be better than yesterday. " The glory of this later house shall be greater than the former, saith the Lord of host: and in this place I will give peace, saith the Lord of host." Haggai 2: 9.
As you wake up every morning, start the day with a positive affirmation. Be grateful to God for the opportunity of another great day while you commit the day in the hands of God.
Be grateful to God for the gift of life, food, shelter, clothing, divine health, divine protection, the works of your hands, your family, friends and colleagues etc. If you are not grateful for the little things you have and see now, you can never be grateful for much and this leads to more depression in life.
"Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, even the God of our salvation." Psalm 68:19
Focus on the good things no matter how small.

Keep fit and stay healthy. Building your body right helps boost your confidence and self worth. Some people think negative and feel depressed about their body type. In order to have the kind of body you desire, eat right and engage in exercises. You can start with indoor exercises. For me I do that every morning before stepping out. You must not go outside or to a gym. You can start in doors.
Our bodies are gifts from God and it therefore behoves us to take care our bodies.
"Thus I do not run aimlessly, I do not fight as if I were shadowboxing. No, I drive my body and train it, for fear that after having preached to others, I myself should be disqualified." 1st Corinthians 9:26-27.

Be helpful to the needy around you. Concentrate on doing good to people. This way you shift focus from the problems you are facing. There is this inner satisfaction, joy and fulfillment you feel inside of you when you lend a helping hand, this boosts your self confidence and builds in you a positive mentality. " And do not forget to do good and share with others, for with such sacrifices, God is pleased." Hebrews 13:16
Endeavor to put smiles on people's faces.

You need no one affirming your worth. Be confident of yourself , know that you are beautiful and remember you have the power to control what goes into your mind.
Have a positive mindset in every bad situation you find yourself. Always see the positive side of it and be thankful to God instead of murmuring.
For every mistake or failure you experience, try to see a lesson from it. These mistakes and failures teach us variable lessons, they strengthen us and make us approach life better and stronger.
Take your mind of the past as there is nothing you can do about it. Stop worrying about the future you have little or no control over but focus on the present and make the present worthwhile.

Quote for the day - " If you can dream it, then you can achieve it. You will get all you want in life if                                      you can help enough other people get what they want." Zig Ziglar
