CONTINUE TO KEEP THE PEACE: BANIGO TELLS EX- AGITATORS

The Rivers State Government has assured Ex-agitators who accepted the
olive branch and keyed into the amnesty programme that Government is
making concerted efforts to give them a sustainable source of
livelihood.

Deputy Governor Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo disclosed this while
speaking to ex- agitators who meet her during an inspection tour of
some ongoing Rivers State Government Projects in the Degema Local
Government area.

Dr. Banigo commended them for keeping the peace and for voluntarily
surrendering their arms and ammunitions without any monetary
inducement, noting that since they have decided to be useful citizens
to themselves and the society at large, they should be patient and
resist the temptation of going back to the creeks.

She said “the State Chief Executive, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, is not
interested in giving you pea nuts which will last for a short time, he
wants to give you something that is sustainable to take care of you on
a long time bases”.

Earlier Mr. Diepriye Tobin who led the ex- agitators to meet the
Deputy Governor at the inspection site said they have surrendered
their arms and stopped all forms of hostilities, noting that they
expect Government to quickly provide an alternative source of
livelihood for them. This according to him will promote peaceful co
existence and integration into the society.
