COVID-19 : LESSONS LEARNT AND THINGS TO BE GRATEFUL TO GOD FOR

The world is presently faced with a global challenge which is the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) affecting every aspect of life.

Billions of people are presently on a lock down situation with restrictions on daily activities all over the world in a bid to prevent the spread of the virus. Economies are shot down and lives brought to a halt.

Come to think of it, being quarantined forcefully or on self isolation is more like being put in prison sadly.
Though a challenge but with it comes valuable lessons learnt from this pandemic globally and individually.
One might ask, what lessons are there to learn with the limitations placed on us due to COVID 19 and what can we be grateful to God for?

Globally, I am sure every country especially developing countries must have seen the need to improve on their health sectors. Covid-19 sure exposed the poor health sector of most countries especially in Africa.

The pandemic which is no respecter of persons, class or political affiliation exposed the need for our health sector to be provided with necessary equipment and overall improvement of the sector but my focus is more on personal lessons and why we should be grateful to God.
In deep thoughts with this lock down situation, I must say there are indeed lessons if ever taking for granted that I am truly grateful to God for now and always. Lets see some of them below.
SOUND HEALTH : Most of us never knew how valuable it is to have sound health probably because some of us hardly fall sick or were ever admitted in the hospital just like me not until the emergence of COVID-19 that suddenly makes it look like everyone is sick.
With COVID-19, everyone one is now cautious of his/her health. We wash our hands much more than we ever did even when we know we come in contact with germs everyday before the emergence of COVID-19.
Despite adverts by different organizations/companies on TV stations and social media platforms on how to stay healthy always by bathing and washing hands with medicated or antiseptic soaps or Dettol but taken for granted by most of us.
We are more cautious than ever of our health minding who we come in contact with or what we touch. Anyone who sneezes and coughs close to us becomes a suspect.

Most of all, is being grateful to God for the sound health He has given to those of us who are not infected with the virus. Though on a lock down situation  but having a sound health is priceless.
FREEDOM : You will agree with me that freedom is also priceless if you are either self quarantined or quarantined by health personnel on suspicion of being infected by the virus.
With COVID-19, limitation has been placed on our freedom of movement from one place to the other and confined to a place.
Before the outbreak of the Virus, we could visit friends and relatives, travel from one city to the other or from one country to the other but the reverse is the case at the moment. We are now limited with social distancing.
There are people who are coincidentally trapped in a place they never planned to be for as long as the lock down is on, away from the comfort of their home, families, loved ones and friends.
While writing this, a friend on Facebook like he knows what I was doing chatted me saying "Things are getting worse for me here and i have been trying to get my self out of Nnewi South Anambra ,but no car to take me to Abuja or Jos. No where like home I swear."

There is also another friend of mine who went on an official assignment in another state but presently trapped due to the lock down situation all over the place and is frustrated and terribly bored.

With the pandemic all over the world placing limitation on our movement from one place to the other, I'm sure most of us must have realized how valuable freedom is and how disheartening it can be to be confined to a place when you are not imprisoned for any crime.

INTERDEPENDENCE : With COVID-19, I have realized that no one can actually do it on his/her own to make it or survive in this life.

Take for instance the relationship between an employee and an employer. You would realize we both need each other. None is taken for granted  especially at this point in life.

Sitting at home, the employee must have realized how important his/her job is. There is nothing as priceless as having a reason to wake up every morning with a job in view to get to.

The jobs we have pay our bills, put roofs over our heads and pays our bills but having to sit at home at this moment, idly having nothing to do shows how important our jobs are. If not for anything, keeping us busy everyday and taking our minds off so many negativity.

On the part of the employer, only a sincere employer would truly recognize and appreciate the services of his/her employees.

At the moment, most employees are at home being locked down to prevent the spread of corona virus having their jobs unattended to. This brings no cash flow, returns or profit to their respective organizations or employers.

Globally, there is also the need for interdependence to fight and defeat the virus. Until everywhere is safe and free from the virus, then no where is actually safe not even a country which boasts of being free from the virus is actually safe and free.

COVID-19 indicates the dangers ignoring global interdependence and corporation since it is no respecter of persons, race, class, culture and even religion.

It cuts of every form of international relations hence the need for global interdependence and corporation to defeat the virus.

The lesson here is whether we like it or not, recognize it or not, we all need each other to survive making the world a better place to live in.

COVID-19 creates a world wide threat yet reminds us that we a global community living in a global village.

For those who are self-employed, you would realize that no matter how little or insignificant of what you do might seem, it is much more better than doing nothing and sitting idly at home.

IMPROVED RELATIONSHIPS: For those who are privileged to be on a lock down situation with their families, friends and loved ones, you would agree with me that there is an improved relationship.

There were jokes online of wives who are happy that their husbands get to spend sometime with them.

Jokes aside, there are men who hardly spend time with their families either due to the nature of their jobs or just don't like staying at home but are forced to do so presently.

I have seen men who post pictures of them online either carrying their babies on their backs or cooking in the kitchen.

I'm sure with this, they will see the importance of their wives and get to know their children better by spending time with them.

In the streets are group of guys who come together to play football every morning which they hardly do before COVID-19 due to the nature of their various vocations in life.

If you are in a lock down situation away from home coincidentally, then you would realize that there is no place like home appreciative of your family, loved ones and friends.

And if you stay alone, you would also realize that there is no place like the comfort of your home and bed than being coincidentally locked up away from home.

REALIZATION OF VISIONS AND CREATIVITY: I know few friends who are dangerously using this time to work on their goals and visions as well as being creative.

While some are beginning to realize their talents, dreams, vision and goals in this lock down situation.

There are those who have gone online to keep the vision and goal alive reaching out to people.

A dear friend of mine who runs a start up program called Start Up Grind which is in partnership with Google where people are taught entrepreneurship by renowned entrepreneurs would be going online for the first time to have its monthly program due to COVID-19.

I call this creativity and keeping the dream alive. Below are the links for registration and the program. It is free.

Another friend of mine who I never knew could sing so well, wrote and produced a song titled "Oyaya"  in this lock down situation and it sounded so amazingly great.

He said he wrote it out of boredom but that song doesn't sound like a song written out of boredom but more in an organised environment or situation.

A song to lift your spirits in a moment like this and encourages you that everything is gonna be alright eventually. Just know that This too shall pass

This a link to the song for download - https://my.notjustok.com/track/440935/presh-orlu-oyaya?fbclid=IwAR1uutXJB3JejcdTfJ6J-5WI9lWU5faA9Pcp88NF0wJfQVge4CKT6HiU_Zc

Download and listen to it. It will encourage you and lift your spirits. It's presently my caller tune 😃. I listen to it over and over.

Today, I have written and completed two articles for my two blogs. This blog and my baby blog which is a relationship blog www.loveanatomylab.com.

If you have a vision or goal in life, then this would be the perfect time to work on your vision. Just because you are in a lock down situation with restriction on movement does not mean time goes to waste.

keeping fit could be a goal you want to achieve. In a lock down situation like this, there is the tendency of growing fat or adding weight due to inactivity of the body. So, this is a perfect time to keep fit by doing simple work outs at home.

No time goes to waste irrespective of the situation we find ourselves in except we let it go to waste. Neither is any vision or goal too small or insignificant to work on in a situation like this. You just need to be creative.

SPIRITUALITY :  Most importantly is the positive effect of corona virus on our spiritually lives. COVID-19 though has enforced the closure of mosques and churches in a bid to ensure social distancing yet has increased the faith of most people, bringing them closer to God.

Using my christian background, I have come to realize that people's prayer lives have personally improved as they are forced to stay and pray at home.

Staying and praying at home brings to the realization that everyone can have access to God especially in times of crises such as this through Christ (Ephesians 2:18) and not to really rely on pastors or imams for prayers.

It also brings to the realization that similar to the fellowship people have in physical buildings, families can as well have such fellowships at home especially families who hardly fellowship together except with people in churches.

Praying or having family fellowship at home assures us of God's presence in line with what  Bible says indicating that that we are the real church in every sense of the word spiritually and not the church buildings ( Mathew 18:20).

COVID-19 pushes us to rekindle our faith in God as we seek His face and intervention to overcome the dreaded virus (Psalm 91) making us realize we are spiritual beings.

Though the pandemic ceases our religious freedom yet kindles and rekindles our faith in God.

COVID-19 pandemic has led us to painful insights of what truly matters, who is important to us, what we cherish most, the true meaning of life which is living a purposeful life while we are still here on earth.

It shows how terrible it is to live a wasteful life doing nothing. Time they say, waits for no man. So, irrespective of the situation you find your self in, make every second, minute, hour and day count.

The virus has also taught us how to be grateful to God for what we have such as the works of our hands, spouses, children, families, freedom, faith etc.

If before reading this you found to value lessons or things to be grateful for from COVID-19, I hope this helps you to.

You can as well put in the comment box lessons you learnt form the lock down situation and things to be grateful for.
