RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT TO STRENGTHEN PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE AMONGST COMMUNITIES IN THE STATE - Banigo

Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo says the State Government has resolved to strengthen peaceful coexistence amongst all communities in the State.

Dr. Banigo stated this while inaugurating members of Degema Local Government Boundary Committee at the Council Headquarters in Degema on 5th March, 2020.

Represented by the Secretary, Rivers State Boundary Commission Mr. Atangsi Lucky, Dr. Banigo said in times past a lot of inter-family relationships have been destroyed because of issues relating to boundary disputes, which according to her could have been averted.

The Deputy Governor who traced the issues of boundary dispute in our communities to insincerity on the part of some community leaders said there is no community or village without a boundary, noting that despite our distinct entity, God created us to live together in peace.

Dr. Banigo charged members of the Degema Local Government Boundary Committee to immediately swing into action by identifying and intervening in any potential boundary dispute as it affects the Local Government and urged them to encourage negotiated settlement instead of litigations.

In his remarks the Chairman of Degema Local Government Area, Hon. Tony Phillimore thanked the Deputy Governor for inaugurating the Committee which according to him will go a long way in restoring peace and unity among the people of the area.

Responding on behalf of members of the Committee the Vice Chairman of the Council who doubles as Chairman of the Degema Local Government Boundary Committee, Mrs. Ebinyo ThankGod, called for the support and cooperation of the people of the area to enable them achieve the desired goals.
