Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has commended members of the Correctional Officers Wives Association (COWA) for supporting their husbands to carry out their humanitarian duties.

Dr. Banigo stated this while playing host to members of the Correctional Officers Wives Association, Rivers State Chapter at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday, 28th November, 2019.

The Deputy Governor who said it is not easy to take care of the less privileged and those who have lost their bearings in life noted that it is humanitarian to bring them back to fulfil their God given destinies.

“When you help these people there is a blessing that comes from the Almighty God Himself. I want to encourage your husbands and those of you who are correctional officers yourselves in the work you are doing. I thank you for the efforts you have made in our various correctional Institutions in Port Harcourt, Degema, and Elele”.

Dr. Banigo expressed appreciation that despite the fact that their Services are within the purview of the Federal Government, the inmates they are catering for are Rivers Indigenes, Nigerians and most importantly human beings, noting that the State Government led by Nyesom Ezenwo Wike would continue to assist the Correctional Services.

The Deputy Governor who reiterated the State Government’s commitment to provide quality education for the citizenry, expressed delight that COWA has a staff school which carters for officers and non-officer’s children in the State.

In her remarks the Chairman of the Correctional Officers Wives Association, Rivers State Chapter, Mrs. Folasade Tinuoye, who described the Deputy Governor as a loving mother said COWA cares for Correctional Officers by providing them with the necessary support to carry out their duties diligently and helps to pay fines for reformed inmates to become better citizens on their release.

 According to her, COWA also helps to accommodate staff children and the less privileged around the Barracks who can not pay their school fees to continue with their educational pursuits.
