The Rivers State Government says it is extremely interested in the Saving One Million Lives Programme for Results.

The State Chief Executive Nyesom Ezenwo Wike made this known while playing host to a delegation of Saving One Million Lives Programme for Results from the Federal Ministry of Health at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday, 25thJuly 2019.

Speaking through his Deputy, Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, Governor Wike said the task to provide access to quality healthcare for the citizenry is a duty he is determined to fulfil at all cost especially when it concerns women and children.

“It is important that we are able to utilize all funds that are available to us maximally; we thank you for what you are doing in Saving One Million Lives Programme for Results. We want much better results not because we need the extra funds but because we need our women and children to be alive” the Governor stressed.

Governor Wike who said health workers in the State would be motivated to enhance   productivity disclosed that the health Insurance scheme would kick off as soon as the State Executive Council is reconstituted.

In his presentation the National Programme Officer Saving One Million Lives Programme for Results Dr. Ibrahim Kana said the Saving One Million Lives Programme for Results is an intervention programme by the World Bank through the Federal Ministry of Health to reduce the high maternal and child mortality rate in the Country which is about 925,000 annually.

He commended the Rivers State Government for its commitment in improving health care delivery.
