BANIGO VISITS PORT HARCOURT REMAND HOME: charges inmate to be of good conduct

Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo has assured inmates of the Port Harcourt Remand Home that Governor Wike is concerned about their welfare.

Dr. Banigo gave this assurance during her visit to the Port Harcourt Remand Home, Borikiri as part of her outreach programme, to donate various food items, toiletries and other consumables for the up keep of the inmates, on Wednesday, 7th November, 2018.

Represented by her Senior Special Assistant, Barr. Inegogo Fubara, Dr. Banigo expressed Government’s commitment to ensure that most of the basic needs of inmates are met within the shortest possible time. “It is a new dawn for you. You will see several changes from today; the Governor is very concerned about you”. She stressed.

The Deputy Governor, who said the Almighty God is a God of a second chance advised the inmates not to go back to their delinquent past when they are eventually released, insisted that they must be good and responsible citizens.

She commended the Warden in Charge of the Home Mrs. Joy Godpower Ololube for being passionate about the reformation and welfare of the inmates.

In her response, the Warden in Charge of the Port Harcourt Remand Home, Mrs. Godpower Ololube, who said the children have continued to demonstrate remarkable improvement in their conduct as inmates in the juvenile home regretted that the approved school which the inmates would have attended is no longer functional.

She expressed gratitude to the Deputy Governor, as well as other Non -Governmental Organizations for their support to the Remand Home.

It would be recalled that the Port Harcourt Remand Home Borikiri was built in 1973 and commissioned in 1974 by the Rivers State Government as a reformatory centre for juveniles between the ages of 7 to 17 years. Presently there are 28 inmates out of which 5 boys are awaiting repatriation to their States, while 1 inmate is beyond parental control.
