THE PROVERBS 31 SINGLE LADY

Proverbs 31 is one of my best and favorite chapter in the Bible. It is a chapter that is mostly associated or interpreted to be for married women and mothers only.
This chapter is one chapter I love so much and love to emulate as a woman and I believe it does not just apply to married women but also applies to single ladies as well.

In proverbs 31, we see a mother giving her son some advice on how to live his life. From verse 10-31 she speaks and advises him on the kind of woman he should take or have for a wife. Truly no woman would sit back and watch her son get married to any kind of woman so was King Lemuel's Mother who wanted her son Lemuel to marry a good wife.

A woman first becomes a single before she gets married and at such the tenets of proverbs 31 must first be applied as a single lady before marriage. In fact, Lemuel's mother in admonishing her son was referring to a single lady. She wanted him to see the qualities of a virtuous woman in the woman he intends to get married to. So I believe this chapter was first referring to a single lady and then a married woman.

As a single lady, you ought to know what you want in a man and have certain things in mind you want from a man before settling down. have you ever thought about what a guy who is interested in you would want to see in you before he decides to get married to you? If you want to get married to a godly man, then you must first become a godly woman and that's what proverbs 31:10-30 stipulates.

Ruth before she got married to Boaz was first referred to as a woman of noble character by Boaz. If he never saw the qualities of a vitreous woman in her, he never would have married her. I'm sure Ruth developed the characteristics of a virtuous and noble woman in her before even her first marriage and that was why she found it difficult to leave Naomi, her mother in-law even after the death of her first husband. These virtues still paved the way for her to get married again not just to any man but to a man of worthy character and respected by all.

HOW DOES PROVERBS 31:10-31 NOW APPLIES TO A SINGLE LADY?

The admonition for the search of a virtuous woman for a wife begins from verse 10 of proverbs 31 with the question "A wife of noble character, who can find?"
And it goes on to say she is far more than rubies. Meaning she is worth more than every precious stone you can ever find. Wanna be a lady of a noble character? lets continue to see what it entails to be a proverbs 31 woman.

Verse 11-12 : She is trustworthy. In everything she does, she is faithful and means good for every one around her. She is a trust worthy friend, sister, girlfriend and  wife to be, whose husband to be trusts in her and has full confidence in her.
She is good at heart and means no harm to any one around her even her husband to be.

Can you be trusted? Can anything be entrusted in your care? can people around you speak good of you and your noble character? Can the man you are dating now trust you with the least amount of money under your care? Can he beat his chest and say yes she can be trusted?

A proverbs 31 woman is a woman any one can count on any time, any day. So start developing a trust worthy character while single as this will continue even after marriage. Be a woman of integrity.

Verse 13-19,24, 27: She is industrious and enterprising. Whatever her hands find to do she does it well. When she sees a profitable business she goes into it and makes sure she profits from it.
She is disciplined and dedicated to her work.
She is an early bird. One who rises up early enough to take care of her household before going out.
She makes sure every member of the family is taken care of and provided for and when the stormy days come, the household is protected from hardship.

A proverbs 31 woman isn't an idle woman doing nothing but looking for freebies. She is hardworking and whatever her hands finds to do she does it well. She strives to be an asset and not a liability in the eyes of her husband to be and people around her.
No job or business is too small for her to begin with and no one is too big for her to embark on.
She is contented with what she has.
She is good at home chores like keeping the home clean and is a good cook.
She understands what it means to be sacrificial for the benefit of her household.

As a single, this is the time to invest in yourself on how to cook and take care of a home. Doing this now will give you a leverage when married as managing the home will not be anything difficult for you.
Get busy with your life by finding something to do rather than waiting for a man to come take care of needs solely.
Learn to manage your time well.

Verse 20 : She lends a helping hand to the needy. She is compassionate to the poor and holds not back a helping hand to those in need around her.

A proverbs 31 single lady does not turn blind eyes and deaf ears to those truly in need. She lends a helping even with the little she has or earns to those in need around her.
She is generous.

Verse 22-23 : She takes care of her physical looks. She dresses just fine like a lady would.

The proverbs 31 single lady isn't careless about her looks. She is modest in her dressing and keeps fit. She engages in exercises to stay fit, remain in shape and stays attractive.
She takes care of her needs though places the needs of others first before hers. She takes her time to give herself a treat.
She knows how to go for things with quality, be it cloths, home decor and even the man she chooses for herself.
The man she chooses for herself is a man of quality. One who is respected and favored by many. She knows what she wants in a man and goes for it but most of all she chooses a man who has the fear of God in him.

VERSE 25-26: Dignity and strength are what she wears. When she speaks, she speaks wisdom and faithful to instructions. She is not moved by the hard times to come. She is not scared of what the future holds for her.

As a single proverbs 31 lady, do you speak foolish things or wise things? What you occupy yourself with like what you read and watch are the things you would eventually manifest with your words or actions.
Be known as a woman with dignity and vigor in all you do.
Preparing ahead of time also prepares you against future challenges and when these challenges come, you don't get too overwhelmed with them but rather cope just fine and handle it with maturity.

Verse 28-31 : Her praise remains in the mouth of many as a result of the qualities she possesses but most of all it's the fear of the Lord she has that brings forth the beauty in her and her praises.
Physical beauty may fade away with time but the beauty within as a result of the fear of God in her remains for ever.
Though the single proverbs 31 lady might not have kids yet but the children around her call her blessed as a result of the love she has for children and so will her children and generations to come call her blessed.

Whether married or not, you can become a proverbs 31 lady.  Make proverbs 31 a guideline in developing yourself and your character in order to become a better woman and a better wife eventually, building a happy home.
