RSG RE-ECHOES IT’S COMMITMENT TO PEACE


The Rivers State Government has again re-echoed its commitment to ensure a lasting peace and development in all parts of the State.

 Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo stated this during the inauguration of the Technical Committee on Eleme and Oyigbo Boundary Disputes at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday, 22nd February 2018.

According to Dr Banigo in October 2016 a Technical Committee was set up to wade into the matter brought by Agbonchia Eleme Community with complaints relating to disputes between them and Oyigbo Community after which a report was submitted.

She said this re inauguration was necessitated by additional complaints brought up by Oyigbo Community who said that part of the boundary was left out in the  earlier petition brought by the Agbonchia Community.

“As a responsive Agency of Government the State Boundary Commission swung into action and after due consideration decided to re inaugurate the Technical Committee to look into the additional issues raised by the Oyigbo Community with a view to settling theses issues holistically once and for all” Dr. Banigo stressed.

In his remarks the Chairman of the Technical Committee, Chief Silas Eneyo said his committee understands how   thorny boundary issues are and promised that the Technical Committee will do a thorough job in order to foster a lasting peace in the area.

Terms of reference of the Committee includes, hearing and receiving presentations from parties, which includes Court Judgements, Survey Plans/Maps, and any other relevant documents/instruments that will assist in the resolution of the dispute.

To advise generally on the boundary between Eleme and Oyigbo Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

To determine/trace the boundary line between Eleme and Oyigbo Local Government Areas in line with necessary valid documents/instruments as may be presented before the Technical Committee.

To recommend for demarcation boundary between Eleme and Oyigbo Local Government Areas, to enable the office of the Survey General to emplace concrete pillars and monuments.

To work within reasonable budgeting limit in line with the present economic realities in the country.

To submit the report within three months to the Rivers State Boundary Commission.
