EVERY RIVERS CHILD MUST BE PROTECTED AGAINST POLIO - Banigo

The Rivers State Government says it is determined to ensure that all children in Rivers State are protected against Poliomyelitis and other Child hood killer diseases.

The Deputy Governor Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo stated this during the First Quarterly Meeting of the State Task Force on Immunization at the Government House in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, 27th February, 2018.

Dr. Banigo said the State Chief Executive, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike re inaugurated the Task Force in 2016 to provide active leadership to the Polio Eradication Activities in Rivers State which includes routine Immunization and Primary Health Care Services to ensure that all children under five years are reached and vaccinated against all child hood killer diseases.

Dr. Banigo who said the State Government is determined to achieve at least 85% coverage for all the routine immunization antigens, solicited the cooperation of mothers and care givers in the quest to totally eradicate polio.

“I call on mothers to bring out their children for immunization, your support is highly solicited we really need to reach these children. In Nigeria we have achieved 18 months Polio free status we need another 18 months to achieve eradication” She stressed.

According to her the strengthening of the health systems heralded by Governor Wike has really helped to see that the services that sustain routine immunization have improved remarkably, noting that the same goes for the Immunization plus Days Campaigns in the State.

She applauded Developmental Partners, Donor Agencies, the Media, Armed Forces, Civil Society, Traditional Rulers, and Religious leaders who have supported the State to achieve what it has achieved so far and reafirmed Government’s commitments to continue to partner with them to completely kick polio out of Rivers State and Nigeria, once and for all.
