WE ARE COMMITTED TO A HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT OF RIVERS STATE: GOVERNOR WIKE

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says the present Administration under his watch is committed to a holistic development of the State.

Governor Wike stated this during the Synod thanksgiving Service for the First Session of the Fifth Synod of St. Peters Anglican Church, Yeghe in Gokana Local Government Area.

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo presenting an address at St. Peter's Anglican Church, Yeghe during the 1st Session of the Fifth Synod at Gokana LGA.

The Governor who spoke through his Deputy, Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo said he strongly believes that the resources of the State should be used for the benefit of the Rivers People and not the other way round.

He said when the Present Administration in the State came on board it was shocked to discover that valuable assets of the State has been sold off in a dubious manner by the immediate past Government and the monies fretted away.

“It grieved us to discover that our assets have been sold  we set up a judicial commission that indicted some persons  but up  till now the A PC led Federal Government that says it is anti corruption failed in its role to demonstrate the spirit of anti corruption by bringing the perpetrators of this act to book” he said.

The Governor wondered why election matters would stimulate so much acrimony in Rivers State, according to him in the build up to the re run election in December 2016 some people were caught printing INEC Ballot papers the matter was taken by the Police to Zone 6 Calabar and now it has been swept under the carpet by the powers that be.

He said he believes in the unity of Nigeria but within that unity justice, equity and fairness should prevail that is why “we believe, Rivers State which is known as the treasure base of the nation should be allowed to control its God given resources. In other nations of the world they develop because they control their resources and pay the requisite tax to the Federal Government. We have a terrain that requires intensive development and that takes money, so all we are asking for is justice, fairness and equity”Governor Wike stressed.

The Governor who reiterated his Administration’s Commitment to the things of God disclosed that Rivers State is the only State of the Federation that has built and handed over an Ecumenical Centre to Christians.

He said through the office of the Special Adviser on Religion a Special fund has been set aside to support Ministers of God in the rural areas to encourage them to stay and evangelize our communities for Christ.

Governor Wike who revealed Governments plan to support mission schools said “before we came a lot of schools have been handed over to the missions, who were in a state of decay because there was no support from Government. We approached the House of Assembly to amend the Laws to enable the State Government to intervene”.

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo being received by the Bishop, Diocese of Ogoni, Rt. Rev. & Mrs. Solomon Sungagelo Gberegbara during the 1st Session of the Fifth Synod at Yeghe Town, Gokana LGA.

Speaking on the theme Fight the Good Fight of Faith Rt. Rev. Musa Mwin Tula, Bishop Diocese of Bauchi said the Rivers People are lucky to have a Governor and Deputy who are both Christians, stressing that it is a great privilege because God has positioned them to bless the State.

He said the Rivers People must rally round and support them to succeed irrespective of party affiliations because they are Christians and in governance the religion of the leader matters because it becomes the State religion.

Earlier the Bishop, Diocese of Ogoni, Rt. Rev. Solomon Gberegbara who is also a Justice of Peace and an Ambassador of Peace said the church will continue to pray for the peace, development and progress of the State and expressed gratitude for the ongoing construction of the Saakpenwa road.
