RIVERS STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR DR. (Mrs) IPALIBO HARRY BANIGO MAKES A CASE FOR CHILDREN

Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo says it is ungodly to force children to work instead of giving them education.

The Deputy Governor stated this in a release from Government House in Port Harcourt as the global community commemorates the World Day Against Child Labour on June 12th, 2017.

According to Dr. Banigo children are supposed to be loved and catered for by their parents and guardians and not the other way round, stressing that it is a misnomer for children to be bread winners no matter the circumstances.“Children are supposed to be in school and not at work.” She stressed.

She said the Rivers State Government under the watch of Nyesom Ezenwo Wike will continue to partner with relevant agencies to put an end to child labour.

According to the Deputy Governor the child right’s law has been domesticated in the State, which gives protection to children from all forms of abuse and ensures that children of school age remain in school.

Dr. Banigo said the theme for this year’s celebration “Theimpact of conflicts and disasters on child labour. is most timely because of the devastating impact of the BokoHaram and the herdsmen insurgency in the country, which has forced many especially children to flee their homes, destroyed sources of livelihood and plunged them into situations where their basic human rights are violated.
